Academic Credit

Students receive credit for academic work they submit in the program's required courses. Academic credit is not awarded for the community service experience itself. South Dakota State University issues academic credits in American Indian Studies (AIS 299). Official transcripts are sent to the student's home institution. Three academic credits are given for the orientation portion of the program and nine credits are earned for the service portion of the program.

Remaining Registered

Most students remain registered at their home institution while participating in the Service-Learning program. Prior approval to remain registered is required from the home institution. Remaining registered has both the advantages of ensuring credit recognition and maintaining your eligibility for financial aid.

Graduate Students

Many graduate students or recent graduates participate in Service-Learning programs. Check with your institution's policy on transfer of credits.
